GemUni announced plans to launch a decentralized NFT gaming platform aimed at bringing play-to-earn experiences to a global gaming audience. The project scheduled its Initial DEX Offering (IDO) for January 19, 2022, across three launchpads, while outlining a broader ecosystem of casual games, signature titles, NFT trading and blockchain-based rewards.
Key takeaways
- GemUni planned its IDO for January 19, 2022, on GameFi, Red Kite and KrystalGO.
- The project raised $2 million in private funding from more than 30 investors and partners.
- Its 2022 roadmap included more than 500 casual games, signature titles and an NFT marketplace.
- GENI Pass NFTs and platform rewards are central to its play-to-earn model.
The planned offering set a public token price of $0.20 and implied a project valuation of approximately $20 million. By using multiple launchpads, GemUni sought to broaden access to its token sale among users in the growing GameFi market.
Building a broad GameFi ecosystem
GemUni’s platform is designed to combine accessible games with opportunities for players to earn digital assets. The company said users would be able to monetize their participation through platform rewards and transactions involving GENI Pass NFTs.
The project’s product strategy is divided into casual and signature gaming categories. GemUni said more than 500 casual games were targeted for release during the first quarter of 2022. Its planned signature lineup included titles such as The Olympus, Hero Infinities, CyberRace, Moon 2050 and ZodiBoom.
An NFT marketplace was also planned to support trading among players. Later roadmap features included a launchpad for initial game and NFT offerings, a decentralized autonomous organization treasury and a dedicated sidechain.
Early community and investor support
Before the IDO, GemUni reported several early milestones. Its December Grand Opening INO introduced GENI Pass NFTs through multiple NFT marketplaces, where thousands of passes were sold, according to the company. A subsequent beta test and Christmas-themed challenge gave participants an opportunity to engage with the platform and earn project tokens.
GemUni also announced $2 million in private fundraising. Its backers and partners included Kyber Ventures, Shima Capital, ZBS Capital, Kyros Ventures, Gain Associates, ZipMex and HG Ventures, among more than 30 reported investors and strategic participants.
Leadership and market ambitions
The project was founded and led by Cassie Nguyen, identified by GemUni as a 2019 Startup World Cup champion in Silicon Valley. Its advisory board was led by Peter Vesterbacka, a former executive associated with Rovio Entertainment, the company behind the Angry Birds franchise.
GemUni positioned itself as a potential decentralized platform for NFT games, comparable in ambition to a blockchain-focused digital games marketplace. Its stated goal was to connect conventional gaming audiences and studios with play-to-earn mechanics while expanding access beyond experienced cryptocurrency users.
The company’s roadmap reflected the strong enthusiasm surrounding blockchain gaming in early 2022, though the success of the model would depend on game quality, player adoption, token economics and the ability to sustain rewards over time.
